Brodie Standen was born in Bathurst, NSW, and studied in Brisbane, where he completed a Bachelor of Photography with First Class Honours from the Queensland College of Art in 2010.

He was the Editor of the 2010 edition of the Australian PhotoJournalist Magazine and has been involved with the online documentary community Centre for Documentary Practice. Much of Standen’s work explores the often overlooked and forgotten individuals in our society and was awarded the 2011 Pool Grant to continue his work on Australian youth and masculinity. In 2012 was a finalist in Australia's Top Emerging Photographers - Documentary/Photojournalism by Capture. 

With a passion for teaching, Standen has also facilitated and assisted workshops with Shahidul Alam, Pete Brook, Chris Steele-Perkins, Stuart Franklin and many other practitioners and educators. Standen has taught at the University of Queensland and Griffith University in Australia and is currently teaching Photography at Coventry University and working as an Education Producer at Magnum Photos in London.
